Other People’s Shopping
Fascinating isn’t it? My own shopping is boring as it changes so little so I can never resist a peek at someone else’s trolley.
Today the trolley I picked at Lidl had someone’s till receipt in it, a very long one, so obviously someone shopping for more people than I do. In fact it looks like a fairly typical family shopping basket.
I’m giving you the chance to be nosy too and have reproduced it below, organised into categories to make it easier to visualise.
I’m not telling you the the total price though - have a guess, how much do you think this lot cost? I’m not sure of the weight of some items so you’ll have to guess wildly now and then, but if you shop elsewhere this is a chance to do a quick comparative tot.

I’m gonna wager about €53 from my own experiences!

Ah Deborah, have you looked at the list? That’s a heck of a lot of stuff, almost 70 items passed through the checkout, even in Lidl it’s a good deal more than that!!

I would say about 80 euro at a guess in Lidl. 140 elsewhere

I’d say all of this for 90-95 euro.

I’ll go for €74.00
By the way, Superquinn is selling some stuff mad cheap at the moment. 450g butter 50c, 12 large free range eggs €1.00, 1kg carrots 50c, 1.5kg oranges €1.00.

Sorry, butter is not 1kg, but 454g. And could you correct my spelling of “selling” while you’re there? Many thanks.

Other people’s shopping lists? Get on with it. It didn’t take long for this site to begin to run out of steam, which is a pity, given its usefulness and, for a blog, its uncommonly high standard of literacy.

That’s a bit rude Goatboy, you may not be interested but I find it very interesting. It’s not too unlike my weekly shop for family of 5 with 3 kids needing packed lunches so I think it is useful to compare. My guess is it cost €110-€120 because mine usually costs about that if I shop in Lidl, much more if Tesco because I avoid most of the (bad) value range like the plague. Too cheap and nasty for my liking.

Yeah, I suppose there’s a lot of ready made stuff which even at Lidl or Aldi will push the price up. I make most thing from scratch… but still I’d have to put a cap on at €75!
